MOTIVATION

WHAT IS MOTIVATION?
Motivation has been defined in different ways but in management:
Motivation refers to ways in which managers promote productivity in their workers.
It's the process of stimulating people to actions to accomplish the Goals set by management.

Primarily, there are two types of motivation, ie intrinsic and extrinsic motivation :

Extrinsic motivation is geared towards external rewards and reinforces e.g money, praises, awards, polices and procedures etc however, this kind of motivation is said to be less effective because it comes from outside the person in the form of controls but we all know that people usually dont like to feel controlled.

Intrinsic motivation is geared towards internal rewards and reinforces e.g work, enjoyment, proffesional achievements, feeling a sense of competence etc Usually we celebrate our success whenever we do well in executing our duties and feel hurt when we don't.

"Alexander Hiam"says that giving someone a jar of candy with there names written on it, is not what true motivation is all about. Its about making workers know what they are doing.
